Going into hour 4, I just hit the first bit of BIG SAD in The Fault in our Stars, so figured it was a good time for a quick break to kill the momentum. Wasn’t really thinking about the whole “book about death and dying” thing when I chose it, but, what are ya gonna do? I’m really enjoying the characters (though Hazel kinda bugs me sometimes), and officially fell in love with Gus at this moment:
What literary characters have made you swoon?
Now to crack open a cantaloupe and refill my coffee!
What a terrific quote! I haven’t read this yet (mostly because of the whole sad thing) but that quote could definitely be the one that pulls me in.
Yay for reading! You’re doing great! Have a wonderful Read-a-thon!
Thanks for coming by, Joy! There’s enough clever wit and snark to keep me flying through this book, but I can tell it’s gonna hurt before too long. Ahh, books, you wonderful, vicious, beautiful, tragic beasts.
Rah rah rah! I’m here to cheer you on, so keep rocking this readathon. Since you asked about swoony characters, I must mention my man James Alexander Malcom MacKenzie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. Knees=Weak. (PS, have tissues on hand for TFIOS. It’s good advice, I swear!)
Oooooh, an excellent swoon choice, Katie! Thanks for cheering; I’m hitting my first energy drop of the day so it’s much appreciated!
John Green always have some amazing characters in his book. Happy reading.
Thank you! I am definitely going to search out more of his works.
I am stopping by and cheering for you. I loved this book despite it being really sad. I hope that you enjoy the rest of it!
It was so beautifully sad, it’s true. Thanks for cheering! Happy Readathon!
Read a few pages “sneak peek” once & liked it.
I think you’d really love it, Colin.
I have a rule. No sad endings:not in movies, not in books. Not in life – anymore.
Kait, but how can you know where the sad will be? Sometimes sad book has happy ending, or sometimes seemingly happy movie has tragic ending. Do you never allow yourself to be surprised, or do you only avoid what you know has sad content of some kind?
